It has been a long time since I last fired up this blog and I thought it might be time to start this up again. As some of you know, I decided to call it a day at WXLV. The every Friday night was becoming to much and was impeding on my personal life with my family. I did turn over the reigns to Pat Sorg, who is doing an outstanding job with the radio show. If you have time, please download the IHeart Radio App, and just search WXLV. Yes we are located there along with http://www.wxlvradio.com. Unfortunately, the college decided that our actual radio signal was worth some money, and they sold it off to a Christian music station. I do go up from time to time, so if you are a friend of the show page on Facebook, I usually make the announcements on there the week before I head up as a fill in. This I do enjoy, for it is on my own time.
As you see the title of this blog, I am letting you all know about a benefit here in the Lehigh Valley called Rock The Cure. A local musician, father, brother, and one that I am honored to call friend has been stricken with Stage IVB Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma, that has now metastasized to other parts of his body. His treatments will be lengthy and difficult, and his friends and family have decided to step up and put this together to help Larry and his family to offset his medical costs that are now heading his way.
The date of the benefit is Sunday, Sept 27th at The Schnecksville Fire Company located on 309 in Schnecksville PA. Doors open at noon and bands start at 1pm. Performances by The Cherry Bombs, The Aardvarks, The Armadillos, The James Supra Band, and Social Call. There will be plenty of guest performers interacting with these acts through out the day. Cost of admission will be $25 and children under 12 are free. This is a rain or shine event so please don’t hesitate to head on out. There will be food, beverages for adults, along with other drinks, a kids zone, for the price of admission. There will also be a 50/50 raffle, basket raffle, guitars being raffled off, along with a Cabo trip among others. The event is sponsored by The Greater Lehigh Valley Music Association. The best thing, is that all funds raised are going to Larry and his family.
Larry has been around the Lehigh Valley Music Scene for 30 years. Geez time is flying right on by. He has been part of bands such as Messiah, Just Mustard, Jolly Roger, Spitshine, and now Social Call. I know he has given his time without question to play benefits to raise money for cancer, domestic violence, along with child abuse. I know this personally for anytime I have asked Larry to play any benefit I was holding, his answer was always, “what time do you want us to be there.” Now it is our turn to give him the same answer he has given me over the last 10 years or so……”what time do you want US to be there!” Our Valley might not be the biggest area in the world, but one thing that I am proud of, is when the bell rings and someone is in need, we step up to the plate. I have been fortunate to know Larry for 20 years plus. This was a no brainer when I was asked to help out.
If you cannot make the show, and you would like to make a donation, please make your check or money order to Greater Lehigh Valley Music Association, and in the memo section, please note Rock The Cure: A benefit for Larry Werner. You can mail your donation to GLVMA, 3140 West Tilghman Street, #206, Allentown, PA 18104. Should you need anymore information on where to get tickets here in the Valley, showtimes or if you have any other questions, please check their Facebook page Rock The Cure: A Benefit for Larry Werner or their website at http://www.rockthecurebenefit.com
